Su...</title><content type='html'>The role of scientists can never be diminished. Suppose an automated system distills certain physical laws from a given set of data. So what? Who's to apply it meaningfully in the real world - the actual purpose of science? Who's to decide where physics goes from here? Whatever the machine's superiority over humans, what happens when for some unforseen reason the machine gets stuck? Or for some reason it is making errors. Afterall its powers are limited by the talent of the designers and programmers of this machine. Who detects it, who corrects it, when a problem arises? It doesn't matter if there's other chess-players better than you.  Science isn't like that.  If an AI was developed that could do science better than humans, then what work would there be left for human scientists?  They could never hope to keep up with the computers.  They could never accomplish anything in science.
